Bright Yellow Buttercups

Hi! My name is Destane and I am a student at Xavier University in New Orleans. I spend insane amounts of time doing nothing, which in the end is something, I guess.

such a needed campaign. i wish they’d have included native americans as well, though, as cultural appropriation of them in costumes is just as awfully common.

It’s that time of year again when these go around. And I will keep reblogging them. And if I see the joke ones I am likely to rip them apart with prejudice.

I will reblog this every year and unfollow anyone who posts joke fandom spinoffs of this very serious and important commentary.

3 out of ABCs top 5 highest rated shows were led by black actors and actresses with its two highest rated shows being led by black actresses. There’s literally no excuse as to why people of color aren’t given lead roles that don’t consist of being slaves or maids.

ABC is ruling television with a steady hand and making the rest of Hollywhite look like shit.

A moment of silence for…

black-american-queen:

Every black man that is “ok with white people using the n-word”

That Asian girl who applauds Katy Perry dressing up like a Geisha

Those native American folks who are fine with the “Redskins” mascot

The Chicano/Latino boy who wants to “deport all the illegals”

A moment of silence for our fallen soldiers. They are lost to the cause.

"He’s essentially obsessed with Patsey." — Michael Fassbender on his character Edwin Epps

"Patsey is a young slave girl on Master Epps plantation. She is the object of the master’s affection and cruelty. He’s madly in love with her and he takes it out on her violently." — Lupita Nyong’o on her character

"Lupita [Nyong’o] is a complete newcomer. Straight out of drama school and so bright and so poised and prepped. Is really impressive." — Michael Fassbender

"It was a dream come true to get to work with Michael [Fassbender] on my first film. What gets captured on camera is what it’s actually happening in the scene, so he’s terrifying but he’s also really a gentle person in real life, which made it safe to do the things I had to do with him." — Lupita Nyong’o

I WOULD NOT CALL THIS “LOVE”

she needs to. read enslaved women narratives … if that was love .. you need to redefine what it means .. cause none of our ancestors were experiencing love. from Masters

That is not love. It is rape, manipulation and abuse and I am tired of people sugar coating the amount of rape, mutilation and abuse Black women suffered at the hands of white men (and white women, who would abuse the slave women after they were raped by the slave owners and overseers, and even more so if they bore the child of their rapist.)

Black women had no legal protection. They were not even seen as human beings. Stop this bullshit

People need to read Kindred and stop deluding themselves about the realities of how shit really goes down.

If this was “love”, why did Epps viciously whip Patsey for leaving the plantation to get a bar of soap because his evil, racist wife restricted her from having soap for bathing.

Why did he repeatedly rape her to the point where she asked Solomon to help her commit suicide.

This isn’t love, it’s abuse.

Stop romanticizing the abuse Black women suffered at the hands of white men.
